Kuwait International Airport To Get Eco Friendly Terminal

Kuwait International Airport is being redesigned and the company that’s been assigned the job is none other than the company that’s designing Apple’s new ‘Spaceship’ headquarters. Fosters + Partners is aiming to create more space and state of the art structure with their new design. The focus of the new building design is to create an eco-friendly building for the airport. The design of Kuwait International Airport is inspired from traditional Arabic designs to get the sense of the place. Special attention is being given to the climatic conditions of Kuwait – one of the hottest places on the planet.

The new terminal will feature a unique design with three symmetrical wings hosting the departure gates for all the flights. The center of the building will have roof at about 25 meters. The overall length of the external walls is about 1.2 kilometers. The designers decided to include glazed windows that filter out radiation from the sunlight and provide natural light to the interiors. Concrete pillars will provide support to the external spaces and entrances. The roof will have solar panels to generate energy to power systems inside the terminal. The designers are aiming to get LEED Gold appraisal for the design. If this goal is achieved, the Kuwait International Airport will be the first Airport in the world to achieve such high standards of green operations. The new airport is expected to see over 13 million passengers visiting each year. There are plans to expand the airport further to accommodate over 50 million passengers every year.
