Mozilla managed to turn Firefox fanboys into Google Chrome lovers with Firefox 4, 5 and 6. However, it seems that Mozilla is a quick learner and they simply can’t afford to lose their market share. Mozilla release Firefox 7 few hours ago which promises significant performance improvements. Mozilla claims that the engineers have worked on reducing the memory usage and managed to get it down to 50%, compared to earlier versions. Quoting from the press release, Firefox 7 offers -

  • Bookmark and password changes now sync almost instantly when using Firefox Sync
  • The ‘http://’ URL prefix is now hidden by default
  • Added support for text-overflow: ellipsis
  • Added support for the Web Timing specification
  • Enhanced support for MathML
  • The WebSocket protocol has been updated from version 7 to version 8
