Samsung Galaxy ‘Y’ aka ‘Young’ has been launched in India for a price tag of Rs. 7830. This new phone is now company’s cheapest ‘Galaxy’ series offering in the country. Few days ago, Samsung announced new naming convention for their Galaxy Series phones. Samsung Galaxy Y offers Android 2.3. The company is clearly targeting Indian youth with this phone. The phone offers 3″ QVGA display which operates at 320×240 pixel resolution. Well, the screen isn’t super-impressive but it doesn’t disappoint at all. You can’t ask for more for the price tag Samsung is promising. Keep in mind that this is a low-end Galaxy series phone. Of course, the screen sports Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz GUI which adds a layer over Android 2.3 aka Gingerbread. On the plus side, the phone is WiFi capable (802.11 b/g/n) and also supports 3G. There’s a 2 MP camera on the rear, FM radio, GPS, Stereo headphone jack (3.5 mm standard). 160 MB internal memory is bit disappointing, however you have an option to add external memory up to 32 GB. The phone ships with 2GB memory card. There’s bluetooth 3.0 and a standard 1200 mAh battery which, on android won’t give you a very good talk time. The company promises a talk time of about 300 minutes.
