Kiwis would rather work for Google than be their own boss.
Surveys of 7100 Australians and New Zealanders, asking people who their dream employer would be, found the search-engine giant topped the list on both sides of the Tasman.
In New Zealand, self-employment came second, followed by Air New Zealand, Apple, and Kiwibank.
New Zealand closely mirrored Australia, where self-employment was second, followed by airlines Virgin and Qantas, then Apple.
Pay, benefits and conditions were the main reasons workers become attracted to a firm, the Insync Surveys and RedBalloon 2011 Dream Employers Survey found.
Google handed its staff a 10 per cent raise in 2010 and its workers famously enjoy funky offices, massages and naps on company time. "We reward employees via excellent benefits and unique perks, such as massages, sleep pods and fun off-site events," the company's Australian HR manager Joe Krayer said
Kiwibank's Bruce Thompson said the bank had being taking on Australian-owned banks since it opened a decade ago.
"New Zealanders like the concept of somebody taking on the establishment. So maybe that is part of it."
