Ford’s E Bike – A Look Into Future Mobilit

E bike markets are heating up day by day. With rising concerns for global warming, apart from walking, E bikes are catching up the imagination of young and old alike. Recently Ford showcased its concept bike at Frankfurt motor show which is touted to revolutionize the future mobility market. The innovative concept by ford will however not transform into commercial product soon. The engineers are brooding upon this topic for further upgrading the technology. The present design is by Cyber-wear, which also happens to be name behind Ford’s Lifestyle collections.

From looks, the design is very clean. A novice cannot identify the power source of the bike easily. All the essential components are intelligently hidden within the body frame of this two wheeler. For example the major power source is housed in the front wheel hub and the lithium ion battery is located in the frame. The design hence basically consists of a trapezoidal profile which is a composite of Aluminum and fiber combining strength along with shock resistance. This greatly reduces the weight of the bike. The weight of this metal frame is merely 2.5 Kg or 5.5 lb.
Even the spokes are specially designed to combine looks with strength. Each wheel has 6 spokes in pairs of 2. All the pairs are arranged in the shape of English letter ‘V’. The lithium ion battery provided with this bike can make it run for 85 KM at a stretch on a full charge. Ford’s E Bike also features patented Magnetostriction sensor technology. This technology senses the speed of internal bearings of wheel and sends this information instantaneously to the motor thereby controlling it efficiently. Magnetostriction sensor technology is actually employed in Formula 1 racing to handle high engine revolutions and thermal strain.
As per an estimate around 30 million E bikes have been sold globally during the last fiscal year and the market is expected to keep growing tremendously. The bike whenever released will definitelybe on the wish list of many. For Technical specifications have a look at Ford’s press release.
